Job Purpose

Maintain the herd’s health, productivity, and reproductive status, provide veterinary care for the herd, set vaccination schedules, and follow up on biosecurity at the farm to prevent infection or the spread of diseases.

 

What you will do in your role

  • Develop reproductive programs in coordination with the farm manager to align with operational plans and achieve targeted goals.
  • Establish biosecurity and vaccination programs based on disease trends and farm requirements to ensure prevention.
  • Perform surgical procedures in collaboration with the veterinary surgeon, using appropriate tools to minimize herd losses.
  • Design and oversee hoof trimming and care programs, ensuring timely treatment of lameness.
  • Manage metabolic disorders by diagnosing affected animals promptly to maintain herd productivity.
  • Implement health programs through monitoring and preventive measures to reduce infection rates.
  • Conduct daily farm rounds to detect health issues early and prevent disease outbreaks.
  • Monitor regional epidemiological trends to minimize the risk of disease transmission to the herd.
  • Train, evaluate, and develop team members, ensuring efficiency and preparing qualified personnel for current and future needs.
  • Promote awareness and knowledge sharing, providing continuous guidance to all veterinary staff.
  • Prepare the annual veterinary department budget (covering public health, reproduction, and heifer care) in collaboration with branch managers.
  • Select and implement suitable reproductive programs for cows and heifers in cooperation with the herd manager and fertility team leader.
  • Choose bulls for insemination in line with company objectives, in coordination with the herd manager and fertility team leader.
  • Develop treatment protocols for various diseases and ensure their effective application.
  • Administer and monitor vaccination schedules for cows and heifers according to the annual plan.
  • Oversee veterinary drug inventory, ensuring adequate stock and proper usage.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of all veterinary activities in collaboration with the data management team.
  • Supervise necropsies to confirm causes of death and implement preventive measures to reduce herd mortality.
  • Set and track KPIs (e.g., infection rates, mortality rates, pregnancy rates) to evaluate veterinary performance and herd health.

What you will bring to the role

  • Bachelor’s degree in veterinary medicine.
  • 7 to 10 years of experience in animal production across various related roles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills at all organizational levels.
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills with great attention to detail.
  • Proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook for report generation and data analysis.
